Field Trip (One day) - 30/11/2023

One Day Field Trip

We went for a field trip on 30th November 2023 to Thiruvananthapuram. We started from Adoor by 7:30 a.m., had breakfast from Indian Coffee House, Kottarakara and reached Thiruvananthapuram by 10:30 a.m. The entire trip was educative and informational. The major places we covered on the day were
  1. Priyadarshini Planetarium
  2. Thiruvananthapuram Zoo
  3. Raja Ravi Varma Art Gallery
  4. Craft Village
  5. Kovalam Beach
It was a memorable trip as we had visited many different places in a short time duration. The show in the Planetarium was incredible. It was such a realistic experience, we felt as if we really went to space. Phones were not allowed during the showtime. It is one of the must visit places if you love things like planets, the universe and galaxies.

Then we went to the zoo. It had a variety of species of plants and animals. There were animals, birds, reptiles, butterflies, and what not. We got to see macaques, lions, sloth bears, Himalayan vultures, pelicans, storks, and hornbills. The spotted deer were there in herds. We took a lot of pictures inside the zoo. There was a separate area for reptiles where we got to see many large and poisonous snakes. Photography was prohibited in the snake park. A butterfly park was also there. We also saw many beautiful birds like macaws and parakeets. The entire walk inside the zoo gave us a feeling of a forest trail.

Raja Ravi Varma Art Gallery was the next place of visit which was in the same premises. Many beautiful oil paintings by Raja Ravi Varma were displayed. The famous paintings Shakuntala and the Hamsa Damayanti were also there among the many art works. From oil paintings to portraits, it was a visual treat for lovers of art.

Later we went back to the Planetarium for having lunch. Then we went to the Kerala Arts and Crafts Village near Kovalam. Art and craft lovers need to visit this place. There is a lot to see from pottery to handloom, sculpting, horn carving, paper quilling, every craft item under the sun can be found there. The best part is everything is made over there. There are different stores displaying and selling each kinds of art works. Each of the stores have artists making the art work. All of us bought little souvenirs for taking home. I would definitely visit the place again with my family.

The last and the best part was watching the sunset at Kovalam beach. Walking on the sand, the waves of the sea touching our feet and watching the sun dip into the sea, everything felt so good. The sound of the waves and the light breeze. It cannot be explained. One must see and feel it. The beauty of the sunset or the sea cannot be captured as perfectly using a camera, as ones eyes can.

I reached home by 10:30 p.m. The entire trip gave us memories to cherish forever. We took a lot of photographs. It was a beautiful and compact trip, visiting the maximum number of places in the available time.
